As believers, we are called upon to share the gospel with others. Before we share, we should remind ourselves of the reason or motive behind this sharing. It was indeed done to spread the knowledge and love of Christ. Paul is a great person to emulate in sharing the gospel. In Acts 17 v16, he is distressed by seeing people worshipping idols and being ignorant of who God truly is. His response to the distress is to love on them by sharing the gospel Acts 17 v22-31. To understand the extent of his sacrificial and selfless love we can refer to Romans 9 v1-3 where he is willing to cut himself off from Christ so that his people may know Christ.
While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.
I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit—I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race.
Lord, we thank you for the love and mercies we receive from you every day. We pray that you lead our hearts to share the gospel with others in love. Amen.
Greetings in the mighty name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
Thought: As we approach the holidays, let’s remember to imitate Christ in terms of humility and serving. Though our God is mighty above all, we are here on earth to be humble and serve others, just like Jesus. We can do this only when we place more value on others rather than ourselves. Death on the cross was not only a painful experience but also an extremely shameful form of punishment. But Jesus, at the cost of His dignity and His life, did that to serve us with the hope of salvation.
Philippians 2: 3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.
Prayer: Lord, help us stay humble and serve others. Prevent us from having any selfish or prideful thoughts and tendencies. Amen.
Greetings in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Word: I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1:10
Thought: Today we have so many different churches, sometimes, even within a church we have groups with different opinions on how the church is to be run. Just imagine if each part of our body has its own mind, there will be total chaos and confusion. Very little to nothing gets accomplished as each part looks out for its own good. Therefore, as members of the body of Christ, we must be humble and stand united so that we all can be extremely effective in doing God’s will.
Prayer: LORD, help me and other believers to be of similar mind and thought. Let Your will unite us over our own ideas. Give the churches the ability to look over their differences to work together for Christ. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen
