Doers Vs Hearers

Dear all,

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of Holy Spirit. Romans 15: 13

Listening and Doing:

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

James 1: 22 – 25

It is important to listen to what God’s Word says, but it is much more important to obey it and to do what it says. We can measure the effectiveness of our Bible study time by the effect it has on our behavior and attitudes. Do you put into action what you have studied?

Matthew 7:24-27 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Two Foundations

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and [a]acts on them, [b]may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the [c]floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not [d]act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, and the [e]floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

When a person is truly born again, he has the Spirit of God living within (Romans 8:9), and the Spirit enables him to know and do the Father’s will. God’s love in his heart (Rom 5:5) motivates him to obey God and serve others.

Obedience to God’s word – Evidence of true faith (James 2: 14).

Christ the Foundation

Christ the Foundation:

Word: For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. I Cor 3: 11 – 17.

Thought: Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

II Tim 2: 19
